Long Live DMOZ! Countdown Started for DMOZ Expiry

DMOZ site has announced the unavailability of dmoz.org from 14th of March, 2017 – one of the last breeds of manual web editing forums, as automation takes it toll once again. It is set to become a fully automated web organization without involvement of ODP (Open Directory Project).

DMOZ Bio

In June 1998, as the result of the open source movement the 100% cost free and world’s largest major open directory of the web - DMOZ was born. DMOZ is the widest hand crafted Database of the web content that serves input to the most popular search engines and portals like- Google, AOL search, Lycos etc. DMOZ also invites everyone for their contribution through editing, issue reporting and site suggestions and seeks involvement of volunteers for better directory blueprint presentation.

Coming through many criticisms and controversies, DMOZ has survived till date to deliver its valuable data for varied SEO companies and SEO service providers although its closure was announced in September 2014. Its presence and relevance is so strong that its vanishing act is laboring well over two years.

Memory Left

As per sources, post DMOZ closure, directory organization will be in the sole realm of machines. Human interface will be strewn out of the window. Still DMOZ will be live in a new Avatar - as the NOODP Meta tag to display below the page of the search result to be used by many WebPages in future.
